A new lump after core biopsy

A new lump after core biopsy

I was diagnosed with symptomatic high grade DCIS on my right breast last year. The radiologists also found microcalcifications in my left breast and said the pattern looked similar to that associated with my DCIS in the right breast.  There was no palpable lump or any lesion detected by ultrasound at that time.  I had a x-ray guided core biopsy in December and the result was negative but in January (about 1 month after the biopsy), I felt a hard/firm lump in the biopsy site.  It is still here after another 5 months.  I asked my family doctor and she wasn't sure if that was just scar tissue or something else. Should I be concerned?  I really don't want to have another mammogram or biopsy.

Dear azure:  You should see a breast specialist.  Although this lump could be scar tissue, your history suggests that you are at higher risk for developing DCIS or breast cancer.  This lump needs to be evaluated.
