ADH not DCIS

I developed a small leision near my left nipple that would open and bleed from time to time. Mammogram and ultrasound showed no abnormalities. Core biopsy report stated it was DCIS and also some invasive cell changes. MRI also showed evidence of malignancy. Because I am very small-breasted, and the area affected was under my nipple, I opted for a mastectomy and L-D reconstruction. Nodes were clear. Post-surgical pathology showed that I did NOT have DCIS but: ADH, radial scar and multiple papilloma. Did I have to have this mastectomy? Could I have been treated with Tamoxifen and monitoring?

Dear UKgirl: The final pathology indicates that either all of the DCIS/invasive cancer was removed with the biopsy or the original pathology was incorrect. If the first statement is true, then you had an appropriate procedure. If the original pathology is incorrect, you were probably over treated.
