ADH

In April 2001 I had a 2 x 1 x 1 cm well defined tumor removed from my left breast, with no lump nodes involved. Had 4 chemo and 33 radiation treatments, followed by tamofin and farma. Now, I just had a core biopsy done to the same area and it showed ADH. There were two speimens taken and one showed ADH and the other didn't. With all the treatments I've done, I feel that I should have a mastectomy, Please help me make the right decision.

Dear lecompte33:  ADH is not cancer but is may often coexist with DCIS and is a risk factor for breast cancer development.  In general, if a core biopsy indicates ADH, the recommendation is to remove the entire area.  The resulting pathology would assist in determining what the options may be.  If there is evidence of DCIS or cancer, then mastectomy may be the appropriate option but your doctor would be better able to assist you with what options are best in your situation.
