ALK

I was diagnosed with breast cancer few years ago and few months ago my ALK went up to 122 and I did bone scan and the result was normal.  A month a go I did a routin lab test and came down to 115.  can you tell me why is going up and down?

The various Liver Function Tests (including ALK) can go up for many for many different reasons.

If the values continue to rise, further investigation is required. If the elevated values gradually return to normal on their own, sometimes what caused the elevation is never known.

It is a good sign that your ALK is falling again. Just be sure to follow the recommendations of your physician regarding further monitoring.

Best wishes...

I'm taking Aromasin and side effect for that is osteoporoses and I used to take calcium which I stopped as soon as my ALK was up.  Does any one else have a similar problem?can Aromasin cause ALK to rise???

I'm not sure about Aromasin, but there's a list of at least 30 meds. that can cause mild to mod. elevations, as well as some, including Vit D, that can cause decreased levels.

Since you are still concerned, you might want to pursue the issue, as well as the various options for preventing/managing osteporosis, with you physician.
