ARIMIDEX

I had DCIS-2 surgeries (lumpectomies last year) and than 38 rads.  Now I was put on Arimidex.  Can you please tell me if this drug can raise my cholesterol and also will this drug really stop me from having the breast cancer return.

Dear Elinka:  In estrogen receptor positive cancers, arimidex will reduce the risk of recurrence significantly.  However, no drug can guarantee that there could never be a recurrence.  Arimidex may increase the total cholesterol slightly in a small percentage of women (<10%).
