Abnormal mammorgram

by Barb1388, Oct 22, 2009 12:28PM
In June I had a regularly scheduled mammorgram. The results came back abnormal in my left breast. I had another mammorgram (I believe it was a compression mammogram) that targeted a specific area on my breast. I also had an ultrasound done. The ultrasound came back ok but the mammogram was still abnormal. I think the diagnosis was Birad 3 with a repeat mammogram in 6 months. At the end of July I started having this itch that comes and goes on that breast. It is an itch that will drive you nuts because scratching doesn't help it. The itch sometimes will last for several days and sometimes just an hour. Also I just started getting this burning feeling in that breast today so far it has lasted for over 4 hours. Could this have been a cyst or something that wasn't symptomatic until now? My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago so every little change, ache or pain just freaks me out. Since I am already scheduled to go back in a little over a month for my next mammogram I haven't spoke to the doctor yet. In the meantime I have been trying to see if there is an connection to the itch that I was having to hormone changes either before or after my period and haven't found a connection yet.

Dear barb1388:  In general, itching is not a typical presentation of breast cancer.  There may be many possible explanations.  However, given the situation with your sister and that the next mammogram is due soon anyway, you may want to give your doctor a call and see if things could be moved up for your peace of mind.
