About tamoxifen

It has been confirmed that hormone therapy does more harm than good.  Does this apply to tamoxifen?  I have just had a hysterectomy at age 76.

Dear ning:  No. The information you are referring to was about the use of estrogen and progesterone in healthy women.  In that trial, it appears that use of these hormones increases the risk of developing cancer.  Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen blocker used to treat estrogen receptor positive cancer.  Although, it is called hormone therapy, tamoxifen does not add hormone, it reduces it.
