Adenosis newely diagnosed

Hi Dr I was cured of Endometroid Ovarian and Uterine Cancer both stage 1a Synchronous. Following routine checks of my Genetics and Mamograms I had two areas of concern which after biopsy and stress and anxiety was diagnosed as having Adenosis. I know this is a benign condition do these areas ever change and become Malignant. I await a Specialised MRI of the breast as a follow up is this normal following this diagnosis of the above ?
Thankyou Scoob

Dear Scoob:  Adenosis is an enlargement of the lobules of the breast.  In some cases, these lobules can form a scar-like structure called sclerosing adenosis.  There is no additional risk of breast cancer for adenosis but it is believed that there may be a slightly increased risk (similar to hyperplasia) of breast cancer in women with sclerosing adenosis.  MRI is a very sensitive test that is commonly used in women who are at high risk.  It can lead to false positive results and therefore, should not be used in isolation – the results of the MRI should be used along with mammogram, examination, and possibly ultrasound.
