After Lump Ultrasound

I am 20 years old and scheduled for an ultrasound of a breast lump under my areola. I was just wondering if the lump is found to be solid, does that automatically mean that it is cancer? If not then does the doctor remove it immediately for a biopsy?

That is good news but keep in mind that no type of imagery can diagnose a lump with 100% certainty; that would require a biopsy of some type. Keep us posted as to any further recommendations. Take care ..

Good news, my doctor had ordered a Mammogram, and I got the results back today. They said that the findings were not thought to be breast cancer. So I guess that I will wait to see what the doctor wants to do next.

Thanks for all the support

I doubt that the lump has completely disappeared. Just as the discomfort or pain in Fibrocystic Breast Condition can vary with the hormone levels in the body, so do the cysts. Women of your age tend to have rather dense breast tissue so I doubt a Mammogram would be of much value. If the lump is palpable it could be biopsied and that would give a definite answer as to it's cause. An MRI is a possible solution ... this type of imaging is valuable with dense breast tissue.  Regards..

Well I went and had the ultrasound done, and the ultrasound technician said that she didn't see anything, she said that the lump must have disappeared. I don't know how lumps can do that, but I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow to see what she wants to do, we may have to end up doing a mammogram, which we didn't want to do, but.. I guess that we will have to wait and see.
So are they going to take the lump out? Best Wishes.

Thank you.

I can relate to you 100% I also am 20yrs old and have 3 nodules at the 12 oclock postition right above my nipple.  I have had a mamm and ultrasound done.  They did a biopsy guided by ultrasound on my largest lump that measured 2.4 x 1.1 cm the biopsy came back as a fibroadenoma and they told me to follow up with a 6 mos ultrasound, which I just had done today and it turns out that the lump that was biopsied is now larger.  The doctor told me that my odds having cancer where very slim due to my age and having no family hx of breast cancer.

A solid lump does not mean that it is cancerous at all. Cancer at your age would be very rare indeed. The removal depends of course on the nature of the lump. Fibrocystic Breast Condition is all too common in your age group ... lesions can be cysts or solid lesions (Fibroadenomas) ... both are benign findings. Both types can be removed or left alone. A biopsy would only remove a small amount of tissue for testing and not necessarily remove the entire lump.  Regards ....
