Anastrozole

Anastrozole

Hello, I am 70 years old and was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in July of this year. I had a lumpectomy in August and when tissue was sent to pathology the results showed ductal carcinoma. I had a mastectomy beginning of this month and I found out yesterday that the pathology reults were clear of cancer. I spoke to the oncologist who explained I have the option of no treatment, or to take a "chemo pill" for 5 years everyday. The name of the medicine is Anastrozole. He explained that it would reduce the chances of cancer returning by 4%. Right now the chances of it returning is 17%-21%. There are a lot of side effects to this drug and I am not sure if it is worth it. My question is- Has anyone been in my situation, or similar? Have you taken this drug? Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there I'm new to the forum, was going to post a question and saw yours. My mom is on the Anastrozole and it's not really a chemo pill it's a pill that stops the production of any estrogen in post menopausal women and helps inhibit cancer growths.  It does come with side effects like almost all drugs.  My mom also had ductal carcinoma stage 1 and lobular stage 2 in one breast.  I hear that is getting to be more common 2 kinds in 1 breast!  Anyhow my moms done fine with it so far no side effects.
