Another Painful Lump Under Arm Question

by momkovar, Nov 03, 2009 08:28PM
Ok - so I am 33.  Last fall, had 1st mammogram. Have benign fibroadenomas, but rad saw microcalcifications throughout left breast only - no pattern, but ill-defined flecks throughout breast. Later stereoactic biopsy performed by local general surgeon confirmed benign breast hypertrophy.  Was told to follow-up in a year.  Had nipple bleeding after biopsy for 6 weeks, so I know ducts were breached during the biopsy.  Lots of breast pain along path of biospy.

Before I went in last year, I had a painful area under left armpit in breast area.  It feels like several small lumps along a cord, and they hurt when I try to feel them.  Pain is not necessarily worse, and I can't tell if the area has grown any since last year.  I'm thinking everything is ok, but wondering if anybody has had similar symptoms that were problematic.  I've read that once benign always benign, but I don't feel comfortable since surgeon said maybe I was 10 ears early.

Maybe I should see a different surgeon this time?  Any advice would be very appreciated!!

What you describe sounds like lymph nodes and these can become enlarged and tender for a variety of reasons. Since they were tender last year they may stay that way .... I'm not sure why a biopsy was done unless there were findings that you haven't mentioned. Scattered calcifications throughout the breast tissue is not an abnormal finding and usually not a cause for concern. If you think you need to ck. with a Dr. regarding the nodes I would suggest a Breast Specialist rather than a Surgeon.  Regards ....
