Antidepressants and Femara

by KRR503, Jun 02, 2009 04:04PM
I  recently read an article about a study which claims that taking the antidepressant Paxil along with tamoxifen will increase the risk of breast cancer recurrence.  I am a 60 year old woman who has been taking Paxil along with Femara for three years.  Do I run the same risk as tamoxifen users?  Should I consider changing to another brand of antidepressant?  Thank you for any helpful advise!

Dear KRR503:  Femara and Tamoxifen work in different ways and there is no documented interaction between Paxil and Femara.  That said, you may want to check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure this is the best medication for you.
