Anyone else's biopsy come back as "fibrocystic changes in breast"?

by mauiluvr, Jun 30, 2009 03:32PM
I had a breast biopsy under ultrasound guidance done today.  I was nervous, but the female radiologist made me feel at ease.  It wasn't all that painful either.  My breast hurts some still afterwards, but nothing that Tylenol can't fix.

The radiologist started out by saying that she thinks "We're dealing with fibrocystic changes within the breast here".  Talk about relief...I know it's not a conclusive diagnosis, but at least she didn't think it was anything to be all that worried about & she didn't say "well--we'll have to wait and see the pathology results".  I was so glad to hear this, I could have cried.  I was an emotional wreck anyways.  She took 4 biopsy samples of the complex cyst that was found on ultrasound.  I get my results this Thursday 7/2/09 at the breast center where this biopsy was done.  Before the radiologist left the room I asked her to be completely honest with me and tell me truthfully in her professional opinion if she thought I had something to worry about.  She said, "I don't think so, I really think it's fibrocystic changes within the breast.  I do these daily and I've seen my share.  And I think it's fibrocystic changes."

After the radiologist left the room, the technician even commented that if the radiologist says that then she's being honest and pretty much knows whether she's suspicious of something or not.  The technician even said that from looking at my ultrasound that she didn't think it was anything all that serious either.  They both reassured me that everything will be okay.  But gotta wait til' the FINAL VERDICT/RESULTS come back from pathology to be absolutely certain.  It's going to be a long couple of days til' then.

Has anyone had a biopsy report come back diagnosed as "fibrocystic changes in the breast"?  Please share--thanks!

Has anyone had a biopsy that sounded favorable beforehand (prior to the biopsy) and then when the results came back---it wasn't favorable (it was cancer)?  If so, please share your story with me.  Thanks!

Yes, my biopsy came back as Fibrocystic changes.  The surgeon decided that he wanted to remove....last Thursday.  The results were a fibroadenoma.  All along, both radiologist believed this to be at at 95% certainty that it was a benign finding...however it had grown from the previous year's mammogram.  After a Biopsy and excision, it is gone, and everything is fine.  It is a high anxiety  perod of time to wait for those results.  Hange in there...this board is wonderful ....people who are feeling the same things you do!
