Arimidex and Stomach Weight Gain

Arimidex and Stomach Weight Gain

My friend has been taking Arimidex for two years and has all the usual side effects--hot flashes, muscle aches, lack of sleep but, in spite of all her exercising and walking and careful eating, all of the weight gain has been in her stomach and she is at a loss of what to do to lose it.  Nothing seems to work and she's very unhappy with that particular location?  Anyone else know of weight gain from the drug at that spot specifically?

Hi,
I am also taking Arimidex (17 months) and although I don't have ,thankfully, all the side effects that Arimidex causes,I did gain weight mostly around my stomach area which is  very frustrating.I regularly exercise and eat a balanced diet, but no matter what I do, it doesn't help!

That's exactly what my friend says.  She is so very careful about diet and goes to the gym and does everything right and she says the only time her stomach was bigger was when she was pregnant.  I can see the frustration in her cause it's going to be at least three more years on the medicine and then will the gain ever come off?  I wouldn't be so sure after that length of time.

I don't know for sure if it will be better once we finish with this medication...They say that  the bad symptoms will eventually disappear and I sure hope that the belly problem will follow suit .My surgeon is thinking of prescribing Arimidex for an additional 2 years for better protection :( So after a total of seven years on this medicine, I hope that I'll have the strength to even exercise on my treadmill..  LOL...
Anyway,I am just thankful that I am cancer free now, hoping that the Arimidex is doing it's job .As for the tummy problem is not really something that is worrying me that much...
Best wishes to your friend and also to you.

I have been on Arimidex for 3 years and I have the exact same problem with the weight gain in my stomach.  I don't know if it will ever come off but all I can do is hope.  I am cancer free since my surgery and the pills and hope to remain so.  My oncologist seems to think every thing is going very well at this time.  After all this is the most important part of it, remaining cancer free.

I wish all well and hope you continue to remain cancer free.
