Arimidex has caused my hip to degenerate

Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years!  DeeDee

I have not fractured my hip.   I have had it degenerate so that I can't walk solely because of Arimidex. You might get to extend your life as a cripple? I see that you are an M.D. so I'm sure you too are paid plenty by Astra Zeneca. Do you not believe in any quality of life???

Hi.

Arimidex really has a side effect of decreasing bone mineral density, and therefore making the person prone to fracture.  The incidence of this in the general population is about 5%.  However, these side effects are offset by the major clinical benefit which is prevention of disease recurrence and may ultimately prolong survival.  This will all depend on how you accept these risks.  Since this already happened, you may want to confer with your doctor regarding shifting to other drugs like tamoxifen, or starting on bone therapy with pamidronate or zometa.

Regards and God bless.
