Armidex: How Long?

by theschnauzerlady, Mar 09, 2008 01:26AM
I was on Tamoxifen for 21 months until the shortness of breath I had reported to my oncologist at Labor Day turned out to be a severe case of pulmonary embolisms (and a week in the hospital) at New Year's.
I was switched to Armidex in January 2005 and soam only a month away from 5 full years on one or the other of these medicines.
I remember that most women are on Tamoxifen for five years; are there any such guidelines for Armidex or a combination of Tamoxifen/Armidex?
Thank you.

Hi,

Because the normal protocol or the usual plan of management was not followed in your case due to the side effects you were having - it would be best to discuss the further plan of management and course of treatment with your doctor.

Your breast specialist and oncologist are the best persons to decide the appropraite treatment and duration in your specific case.

Let us know how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Keep us posted.

Regards.

I had my semi-annual appointment last week with my oncologist last week..

As all my mammos have been clean --and only the need for one core biopsy since my diagnosis six years ago-- she ordered an MRI.  If that is also clean, she plans to continue the armidex only through January (so five full years on armidex in addition to the time on tamoxifen).

If you've learned or heard of any other protocols, would you let me know.

Thank you.
