BREAST PAIN

BACK IN JULY OF 2002, I HAD A MAMMOGRAM AND ULTRASOUND.  I HAD BREAST PAIN,BUT BOTH TEST SHOWED NOTHING.  I ALSO, WENT BACK TO MY OB/GYN AND SHE DID A SELF BREAST EXAM AND SHE DID NOT FEEL ANY LUMPS OR THICKENINGS.  SHE SAID IF I WANT TO REASSURE MYSELF I COULD GO SEE A SURGEON.  WHAT FURTHER PROCEDURES DO YOU THINK THE SURGEON WOULD DO?  IF THERE ARE NO LUMPS IS THERE STILL A POSSIBILITY OF ANY CANCER?

I'm scared to death now too!
I also have similar pain as you do - It is all only on my right breast. It hurts when I wear my bra. I've had a mammogram and a ultrasound last May, but nothing showed up and I still have pain.

Wow, first time posting and I just made an appointment for an examine.  Had a good mamagram 2 years ago and now have breast pain behind the nipple area.  When wearing my bra it hurt and felt irritated.  I didn't feel any lumps.  I'm so nervous and cried my eyes out over the weekend.

I am concerned that when breast pain is mentioned, it is not suspicious.  In 2 weeks, my life has changed immeasurably.  I have invasive ductal carcinoma, rapid mitotic index, 3 cm.  I have begun preadjuvant chemo.  My cat clawed my right breast around Nov. and it bled profusely.  I had intermittant sharp stabbing pain in Nov., Dec. and did nothing about it, thinking it would go away.  Felt no lump.  Finally went to my Dr. in Jan., quickly went from mammogram to biopsy to chemo.  I had the first mammogram of my life a year earlier and it had been completely pristine.  So, please ladies, take breast pain seriously.  I wish I'd sought help immediately.

I hope he answers your question, because unlike you, they did find a cyst in October and will be having a follow up on Thursday, because the cyst wasn't there in last years mammo. I also found a lump under my arm and they will be doing an ultr-sound. My surgeon, who does a lot of breast cancer surgeries, asked how long the lump under the arm had been there. I did not know and now I am a little scared. Has this happened to anyone?

Dear BOOBA2:  If a clinical breast examination, mammogram and ultrasound are all negative, I doubt the surgeon would have much input.  Breast cancer is not usually painful.  There does not have to be a lump to be cancer but there is usually some indication on some test that something is awry.
