BSE with Implants

How does having breast implants impact self breast exam and mammograms. Is there any research that shows delay in detection related to the fact that a woman has implants?

Dear Nurse 1, There's no evidence that women with implants have a higher vulnerability to breast cancer than other women.  Abnormalities can be detected on mammogram and sometimes a lump is felt.  Cancer is diagnosed in the same way as any breast cancer - with a biopsy. We are not aware of any research that shows a delay in detection related to implants.  

Self-breast exam monthly, and mammogram guidelines would be followed.  As with women without implants, monthly self breast exam helps you to be familiar with what is normal in your breasts, and if something changes you can have it checked.  Mammograms would also be compared serially to detect any changes.
