BSO - Breast Cancer - hCG

by almendra, Apr 22, 2007 12:00AM
I am 40 yrs old. I had a mastectomy in 2000. Cancer free since then. In 2003 I had a BSO (my two ovaries were removed due to benign cyst and history of breast cancer). I am now 90 lbs overweight and looking to use hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). Any concerns with this approach?

Dear alemandra:  HCG is not approved by the FDA for treatment of obesity.  Randomized trials have not shown that HCG increases weight loss over placebo.  Additionally, there is speculation that these hormones “could” stimulate cancer growth.  We recommend that you discuss weight loss options with a board certified physician who has specialty interest in weight loss.
