Biopsy?

Biopsy?

Am 53 and have had a  full hysterectomy 4 years ago- have never had a pregnancy. No real family history of breast cancer but my mother died of cancer in abdomen. Grandmother had it at the age of 89 and uncle had breast cancer at age of 70. My previous mammogram 4 years ago showed nothing. New one showed a lump the size of a pea. Have only Medicare insurance. Doctor and radiologist both have recommended another follow-up mammogram in 6 months. No biopsy was recommended as of yet. Should I be worried?

No sense telling you not to worry ... we all do that but of course it doesn't help much. If you aren't comfortable with the 6 month wait I would recommend that you bring it up with your Physician and get a good understanding as to why the wait. There is a good reason I'm sure and the time involved is often recommended for a follow-up Mammogram. You are always entitled to a second opinoion if you aren't completely comfortable with the first one.

Hi,

I think the doctor and radiologist feel that the lesion is most probably benign and hence a follow up examination in 6 months would tell about any change. This is the usual plan of management.

Till then you could carry out regular breast self examinations and report any abnormal features to your doctor. Also, you could take the opinion of another breast sepcialist and then decide what needs to be done.

Let us know if you have any other doubts and psot us about how you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
