Birad 4

Birad 4

I have microcalcifications on my mamogram (mammogram), and have had the second Mamogram (mammogram) to confirm.  The Second was a closer view.  I saw a surgeon yesterday who advised me I could wait and do a follow up Mamo in 4 months.  I do not have an obgyn.  Should I see a cancer specialist?  Should I get an OBGYN?   Should I not wait 4 months?  If I don't wait do I get Stereoscopic or surgecal incinsion.  The surgeon told me it was my choice.  I'm not sure what I need to be doing to take good care of myself.

I'm assuming your films resulted in a BIRADS 4 rating .... this means that an area of suspicion was seen and a biopsy was recommended. I'm not sure why the Surgeon would advise you to wait 4 months for another mammogram ... I would insist on some type of biopsy; you might consider seeing a different Surgeon which would constitute a second opinion. I see no reason to have an OB/GYN .. as he/she wouldn't really play a part in your breast concerns. A cancer specialist to my way of thinking would be an Oncologist and there would be no need for that type of physician unless a biopsy had confirmed a cancer diagnosis. Microcalcifications often prove to be benign on biopsy. As far as the type of biopsy, that would depend on where and possibly how deep the area of suspicion. I think a second opinion from another Surgeon would be in your best interest at this point. Please keep us informed as to what you decide.  Regards ....
