Birads 4b biopsy results

Birads 4b biopsy results

It has been quite awhile since I've posted, although I follow your stories -- two years ago I had a stereotactic breast biopsy for a suspicious microcalcification cluster that revealed flat epithelial atypia with columnar cell changes, which was followed by a wire-guided excisional biopsy to be sure of no adjacent DCIS or ADH. The excisional biopsy result was benign, with no additional atypia noted.

Last year my MD wanted me to have an MRI due to the extreme density of my breasts, plus the usual mammo and also ultrasound mapping of my various cysts. The MRI looked pretty good (Birads 2 overall), but this year's mammo showed 2 new suspicious microcalcification clusters in an adjacent area of the same breast that had the atypia -- these were rated Birads 4b -- and also a new, growing lump in the other breast, rated Birads 4a. I am now 48 years old.

I just had all three biopsies done last Thursday -- two stereotactic biopsies for the microcalcification clusters, and one ultrasound-guided biopsy for the pea-sized new lump in the other breast. The biopsy results are in -- all three sites show benign fibrocystic changes, and no new areas of atypia or anything worse! I just wanted to share the good news, and also to reassure others who are facing the stress and worry of receiving those Birads 4 ratings -- a happy ending is possible!

Hugs and good health to you all.
