Hi. I just read a post from someone from this forum from a 19 year old who was having secretions from the Montgomery glands and the reply stated that she should worry if bleeding ever occurred out of these glands. Recently, I had some bleeding from my right breast's montgomery glands. I asked my husband (an R.N.) about it and he asked a colleague and she said I should see someone, which I did. I'm going to get a diagnostic mammogram, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen this before and what it might be. It happened only from one breast (right) and it wasn't a lot, just droplets from more than one of the glands and it seemed to have come out spontaneously because while I had been pressing on my breast and nipple before my shower, after my shower is when I noticed it. Any help which would give me direction is appreciated.
Just like the glands of the faceFace pain and other areas of the skin, these glands around the nipple can likewise be infected and cause some bleeding.
Very uncommonly, this can be a manfiestation of Paget's disease of the breast which may be accompanied with eczematous lesions of the skin and underlying breast nodule.
I agree with you having this evaluated further. For now, avoid manipulation or touching the area and keep the area clean.
The montgomery glands are sebaceous glands around the nipple area. It is unusual for these glands to bleed, but if they do, the most common cause may still be infection or trauma.
