Bloody breat discharge

Bloody breat discharge

My mother is 62 years old and has had a bloody discharge from only one of her nipples. There are no lumps or pain in the breast or general area. We have read that this could be possible cancer. She went for a mammogram and we are awaiting those results. The mammogram tech said that the mammogram looked clear. Her doctor tried to squeeze the breast to collect a sample of this discharge but could not get anything. The discharge happens at random times with the first couple of times being only small drops however the last time there was more blood. We were curios as to what other conditions could possibly cause this besides cancer.

Hi,
A bloody nipple discharge can be caused by both benign and malignant conditions.    Invasive cancers do not usually cause breast discharge. However, this condition should be ruled out.
Examples of benign conditions that can cause bloody nipple discharge include breast abscess, mastitis,, fibrocystic disease, intraductal papilloma etc..
Please contact her Doctor or a Breast Specialist so that this discharge could be further investigated.
Best wishes to both of you.
