Bloody discharge

Bloody discharge

I am 25 y.o. and a clear liquid containing blood started coming out of my nipple after exercing a pressure a few weeks ago.  The liquid has been tested and I have "rare clusters of atypical [..] ductal cells".  My doctor is not much concerned with it (because of my age and genes) and thinks it might just be fibrocystic changes but recommended a biopsy anyway, and suggests that a duct might have to be taken out if it is more serious.  Until today, the liquid coming out of my nipple had gradually become clear.  This morning, out of the blue, the liquid is rather frank blood. It was never like this before.

Is this more urgent than my doctor feels?  Would it be better to take out the problematic duct as they do a biopsy, rather than opening again later?

Dear Catherine25:  There are several things that can cause spontaneous bloody discharge.  Some are benign and some are not.  Atypical cells are not cancer but may be an indication that there is reason to pursue the drainage.  You may be well served to seek the assistance of a breast specialist.  Spontaneous bloody discharge is not normal and it's source should be pursued.
