Breast Biopsy on left breast

Breast Biopsy on left breast

Yes,I went for a surgical biopsy on August 4th. Mammogram started taking pictures and if the lump was pressed left to right the lump would disappear, but when pressed from top to bottom the lump would be there but had decreased in size some.  My growth is 1.5 cm and was spicuated.    The surgery was canceled and a sterotatic was scheduled.  Does this mean this may not be cancer?  I had a FNA on July 14th with ultra sound and it showed fatty necrosis.  What is this and should it be removed?  Confused!

Dear jrclarkbutterfly:  A fine needle aspiration (FNA) is often done when a lump can be felt.  Fatty necrosis is defined as death of cells or tissues through injury or disease, especially in a localized area of the body.  Fatty necrosis is not cancer but there is no way, with such a small sample to know why it occurred.  The concern is that this very small sample of tissue may not be representative of the entire lump.  In these cases a biopsy that can take a larger sample may be recommended.  This could include a stereotactic biopsy or an excisional biopsy (where the entire lump is removed).

When I had my biopies (both) each time it seemed like the very small lump I had seem to disappear. Doctor said it could be because of swelling I could me feel it or some of it had been extracted during biopsy which made it smaller. I don't know what an FNA is. Hopefully it will be nothing.

Hi - FNA means fine needle aspiration.  It is one of the ways they do a biopsy of the tissue. There is also another biopsy, called core biopsy where they take more of the tissue.

OK Yeah thanks. I had the core biopsy and then the stereotactic.
