Breast Cysts and Lympnods

I was told in January that I had a small palable cyst in my left breast.  I returned six months later and the doctor did another ultra sound and said he felt it was a "complex" cyst and recommended following up in 6 to 8 weeks. He said I could have it aspirated if I wanted to.  I also have some pain under my arm. Can you feel a swollen lympnod and what is a complex cyst.  Neither my mom nor any of my sisters have had breast cancer.  I am 46 years old. I have a slight cough for about a month do you think that is related?

Dear eggy4:  A cyst is a fluid filled structure and by definition is benign.  A complex cyst is also fluid filled but has solid structures (walls or septations) within the cyst.  The concern with a complex cyst is whether the solid components are of any concern.  Also, they can be more difficult to aspirate since areas of fluid may be separated into compartments.  If there is concern, a complex cyst can be removed surgically.  If a lymphnode is swollen, it can often be felt if it is located close to the surface (like in the neck, underarm or groin)  -sometimes they can be felt even if they are not swollen.  A cough is unlikely to be related to a complex cyst.
