Breast Implants after Abnormal Mammogram

Breast Implants after Abnormal Mammogram

Hi, I had a mammogram done on Aug 25th, 2009. I was told by the radiologist that the images came out clear and that I should get the results within a week.  Since I hadn't heard anything for that week, I went ahead with my scheduled breast augmentation.  A few days after my augmentation I get a voicemail from my doctor's office stating they were calling to schedule my mammogram.  I thought this was a mistake since I had had it done already.  Well after a couple of calls and playing phone tag, I finally speak with the woman and she states that I need to come back to do a compression view and possibly an ultrasound. I've read that some dense views come back due to tissue being folded when views are taken but I was not large breasted (small B) and am wondering if there indeed is something to worry about.  I'm waiting for my surgeons call regarding how long to wait before I can do the compression views now that I have implants.  Can someone give me some good news??? EM

All I know, and it's not much for sure, is that any responsible plastic surgeon would wait for the results before he starts his work on whatever it is having to do with the breasts. In fact, a responsible plastic surgeon will demand you have a mammogram before he even agrees to do his work. (I mean if you are at the age to have mammograms and after 40, or earlier if you are high risk)

Any any responsible plastic surgeon will not operate if there is any doubt as to your breasts being healthy for sure.

So, I don't get it, but I do get your being upset about this.

Thanks for your response.  I just turned 38 and it wasn't required by my surgeon to have the mammogram.  He just suggested it and I figured what the heck. There is some history of breast cancer, but none in their 30's.  They were in their 60's when they were diagnosed.  Anyways, I just felt that if I put it out there, more women would do the right thing and just wait for the results before going through with the breast augmentation.  Lesson learned :-(     EM

I'm sorry to hear that your anticipated satifaction with the augmentation has been somewhat marred by  doubt and worry due to the mammo and recommendation for further studies.

Have you heard back from your surgeon yet regarding what you can/should do now?

Please keep us posted, both to provide information for others, as you mentioned, and because we care about YOU.

Best wishes...

Yes, I heard from my surgeon's office today and was told that I have to wait 3 months before I can have another mammogram.  However, they recommended that I have an ultrasound done meanwhile.  So I contacted the radiology dept who did the mammogram and they agreed to go ahead and do an ultrasound this coming Tuesday.  I will keep you posted with results.  Thanks for your response......  EM

Thanks for the update.

I'm glad you can have the ultrasound, instead of having to just wait and wonder for three months.

Peace of mind is priceless.
