Breast Infection in both breast-No obvious reason

Breast Infection in both breast-No obvious reason

I had a left breast infection in March of 06, treated with IV antibiotics. Ultrasound showed no abscess, only infected tissue. There was NO obvious reason, no nicks in skin, or trauma, NO obsious way for bacteria to enter the tissue. June had a follow up ultrasound due to a mass.  Did a needle biopsy, non cancerous, but need to follow up, not 100% conclusive.  I have a follow up exam in January.

I just had ANOTHER breast infection, but in the RIGHT breast.  Exact same scenario as the left, ultrasound showed infected tissue, no nicks in skin or cuts NO obvious way for bacteria to be there.  Treated w/ IV antibiotics, it's over a week and it's still slightly obvious.  I have swollen lymph nodes under both arms.  My blood work showed my body is fighting an infection.
The breast specialist says it's non-surgical so I followed up w/ my general M.D.  She is uncertain of what to do next, cannot come up w/ a reason for the infections.
I never get concerned w/ physical issues.  This is concerning me greatly and I don't know what to do next.  Mr Dr. is going to research and let me know if she wants further tests.
Please advise what my next step should be.  I was considering going to all homeopathic at this point.  I have been feeling truly awful and want this to stop.  I was considering a fast to eliminate body toxins??
I could really use some direction on this.  My entire family is bugging me to do something, but I don't know what to do.
Thank you in  advance!

Dear MariaG1012:  Without examination and full evaluation, it is not possible for us to speculate on the cause of your problems. In general, when what appears to be an infection of the breast does not respond to antibiotics, it is important to rule out breast cancer. A breast surgeon can be helpful in that regard. If the problem is truly infectious and your primary care physician is uncomfortable handling it, it may be appropriate to consult with an infectious disease specialist.

Hi Maria...If you want the doc../nurse to answer again you might have to repost or, try to post a comment to your own board and in the (Comment to: CCF-RN,MSN-RFtype) I myself have had a breast infection since at least the end of Sept. ...both breasts now.  Neither are clearing.  One now has two types of discharge..Dark green (found to be staff) and on the right I am now getting a thick yellow(like you would find in an infected wound.)I have been put on antibiotics a number of times leviquin, then keflex: 500mg 2t a day then 3 times a day, next was 4 times a day. I have seen on myself the area around the nipple change, it has spread out and enlarged.  I also have at least ten to fifteen little white spots. (pimple like) I believe these are other (nipples) so to speak (I had these when I was breast feeding.)  The other thing I have noticed was on the skin itself I have lines all over, hundreds of them, some of them indent and some pertrude. My nipples themselves have not indented. have your's, or do you have any of these symptoms?  I went to get a momo today so I'll let you know how that goes.  My gyno/obstatrician wants me to see a breast specialist depending on the results.  Went to my regular physician and he wants me to go to an infection specialist.  once I get the results I'll know where I'm headed.  Please if you find any homeo pathic remedies and they seem to work please let me know...I think I';m ready to try that too. Good luck with everything.  Maybe we both have an infection that just won't clear and we'll be back to normal.  please let me know any answeres you have, and I will do the same for you...

god bless

Hi Dahrma,
Thanks so much for letting me know that.  I'm not familiar with forums.  I do have discoloration on my left breast, and now on the right breast, but no nipple discharge.  I was convinced this was just an infection in my body but there really is no way the bacteria could enter in this area.  Then, I researched the IBC (inflammatory Breast Cancer) and realized how much this cancer has been mis-diagnosed.  What I've been hearing from the doctor is exactly what other women have heard who have been misdiagnosed.  So, I'm concerned now and wasn't before.
As far as homeopathic, the only thing I'd like to do and did mention to my dr. is a 10 day cleanse which is very good in eliminating toxins.  She told me to do it for 3-5 days only.  I certainly see where you would be concerned.  Your symptoms sound more scary, but the great thing is you are being proactive and looking for answers.  Just make sure you pursue your course of treatment thoroughly!! Do what you are comfortable with as far as finding out why this is happening.  I was not concerned until I realized how some women were being missed in the process of their treatment because the infection looked like other things.
Please keep me posted on how you are doing and what you find out and I will do the same.  Boy is it good to chat w/ someone who is going through something similar.
I will pray that you stay strong and get through this, whatever it is..

Thank you very much.
I did some research on IBC and am getting concerned that this may be IBC.  It has been mis-diagnosed many times in similar situations.  Is there a specific test that would rule IBC out?

How did things go at the doctors? Your mamo results? IBC is misdiagnosed quite often.
maria - how many samples did they take? It looks like if it came back inconclusive they would get more samples. My fist came back inconclusive. I would get a second opinion. Quick. Your insurance should/normally pay for a 2nd. Go to breastcancer.org lots of good info there and you can post on the discussion boards to other women who have been through this and share your symptons. Please don't wait.

Hi Again,
Ok, just reread the other post.  Not sure how many samples they took.  They were going to follow up w/ another appt. in January.  BUT, this was before I got the other infection.  What were you diagnosed with?  Pardon my ignorance if you have already posted, but I'm not familiar w/ forums and where to find other information.
