Breast Mammogram/Ultrasound results showing Hypoechoic nodule or complex cyst

I would like your opinion on the following results:
MAMMOGRAM (spot compression):There is an ill-defined 6-7 mm density with indistinct margins in the right upper outer quad.Density is flattened and changed w/spot compression. There are no clustered microcalcifications.
ULTRASOUND:Demonstrates a tiny hypoechoic nodule or complex cyst at 9 o'clock, 2-3 cm from the nipple measuring 4x3x4mm; too small for adequate characterization. No flow is seen on Doppler.
ASSESSMENT:Suspicious abnormality (ACR FC P/4)
RECOMMENDATION: Surgical consultation is recommended. Biopsy.

Appointment with surgeon is in 2 days and I am very frightened. Do you see anything positive in this report as all I can think of is cancer. Age is 49 and have had mammograms faithfully ever year and this is first change - breast tissue is dense.

Thank you.

Thank for you the wonderful service you provide.  An excisional biopsy was performed and it is benign.  Fibrocystic tissue.  We are greatly relieved.  Thank you again!

Dear Barbd:  When there is an abnormality on mammogram that does not disappear with spot compression or cannot be definitively characterized by other methods, a biopsy is generally recommended.  In the case of a suspicious finding on mammogram, only about 25%-50% turn out to be cancer but the only way to know for sure is to biopsy.
