Breast Pain and itching of nipple

I had a lumpectomy about eight years ago for an atypical lesion.  Now I hurt in the same area and I have itching of the nipple quite often on that same side.  I have consulted a physician and will be having a MRI within the next two weeks.  Could this be from scar tissue?

Hi,
Have you missed a menstrual cycle?
You could be having the pain due to several causes including trauma or injury to the site and hormonal fluctuations etc.
What you could do is try some breast massage and some breast exercises, wear lose clothes and try some warm compresses.
If these help, then you can relax.
If not wait and see whether you miss a cycle, and that would indicate your suspicion to be true.
Schedule an appointment with your doctor if the symptoms still persist and get a clinical evaluation done.
Do let us know about how you are doing.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Hi,
Yes you are right - this most probably seems like a fat necrosis or scar tissue due to the lumpectomy. The MRI will be able to confirm it. If the scar tissue is extensive and symptomatic then it is excised. But in case OTC painkillers , antiallergic or antihistaminic medication and soothing lotions help you with the pain and itchiness then it can be managed by regular follow ups. The radiologist would explain to you the extent of the tissue and then you can discuss with your physician what are the options available. Goodluck.
