Breast Ultrasound Results Confusing

I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound performed.  I called to get results and the doctor said the ultrasound showed area of concern that is non specific.  She then scheduled me for an MRI and said it is very important I go to the appointment.  I am confused about the ultrasound results, what is non specific area of concern.

Thanks for the update and Congratulations on the Path results. That's great news. It is wonderful to be able to take that deep breath after all the waiting and worrying. Take care .....

just wanted to follow up with an update.  I had a core needle biopsy which revealed an Intraductal Papilloma.  My doctor ordered a surgical biopsy to remove the mass and get definitive diagnosis.  I am a bit impatient and have not seen nor talked to the doctor since the procedure on Monday.  However, I did get a copy of the pathology and it says it is indeed a sclerosing intraductal papilloma with no evidence of malignancy or atypia.  Definitely a relief since it was a peripheral lesion and I have extensive family history.  The only concern I have left is one of the doctors questions whether the entire mass was removed or not.  All in all though definitely breathing easier.  Thank you for the support!

Without exception women will tell you that the waiting is definitely the WORST. I have always thought that the waiting required perhaps prepares us in a way that we are READY for whatever comes. We change from the fear of hearing to "let's get this over with" !!
The mass not being speculated IS a GOOD THING. Hang in there ... and take care.

Still waiting...had an ultrasound today after radiologists could not read the second diagnostic mammogram without first seeing ultrasound report.  I did see the mass, it is 1.1cm x .6cm it is lobular, irregular shaped, hypoechoic and she did see shadowing.  However, she did say it was not spiculated which is good I think. She told me it could still be a fibroadenoma even though there are characteristics that are not "typical".  She also said Radiologist will most definitely order biopsy after my MRI on Wednesday.  The waiting is what is so difficult and the fear of the unknown.  I was telling the office that at this point I just need to know what I am likely facing so I can either put my game face on or relax that it is probably nothing...

Even though it is very worrying you are on the right track to find out what is going on and how it will be treated. Of course we worry ... we women seem to be very good at that even though it doesn't help much. Try not to stress too much ... keep thinking of it as something that needs to be taken care of and proceed with determination. You can do it ... we all have and I'm sure some of us were surprised at our strength when it was needed. We women are a pretty tough bunch when it's required.  Take care ....

Thank you for your responses it seems just being able to post on here helps some because I am really a nervous wreck about this.  So, I was wrong, right breast is BIRADS 3 and left breast is BIRADS 0.  Had additional diagnostic mammogram today and also was able to see my film from last week.  There is a bright white area almost a rough triangular shape they have circled and wanted to see if with spot compressions they could get it to disperse, hoping it was a clump of tissue.  It didn't disperse, now they have scheduled an ultrasound in addition to the MRI next Wednesday.  I am trying not to read the worst into this but it is definitely nerve racking.  My family history is not the best either my mother has had DCIS x 2, all three of her sisters have had breast cancer(only one still living) and her mother had breast cancer.  Thanks again...

The Diagnostic Mammogram aside from giving several different views will be done while the Radiologist is in the dept. to read the film immediately rather than at a later time. Of course the MRI will show things that the other two tests cannot. Best wishes for both; will be waiting to hear your results when you receive them.    Kindest regards .....

Thank you, I went to get results today of original mammogram and ultrasound.  She says there is a nodule they are wanting to see better, mammogram had BIRAD 0 and Ultrasound was BIRAD 3.  Scheduled for additional diagnostic mammogram tomorrow and MRI next Wednesday.

A diagnosis can rarely if ever be made with only a Mammogram or Ultrasound. This area may be a density for which a cause or name cannot be determined. It could be something of concern (a growth or hardening of the tissue) OR it could be only a shadow due to an area of tissue that has folded over on itself and nothing at all to be concerned about. The MRI is a much more sensitive test that can very likely show this area in greater detail. In some cases the area may not even be seen with the more sensitive test. Depending on the results of the MRI the next step may or may not be a biopsy as this is the only way to determine with 100% accuracy the nature of any abnormality found on film. I also advise that you keep the appnt. for the MRI.  Regards ....
