Breast abscess then cyst

by kathy0017, Jul 14, 2009 02:49PM
I recently found a large breast lump which after a mammogram and ultrasound was determined to be a breast abscess.  It was asprirated, I was treated with antibotics.  I still have breast pain after 4 weeks.  I had another ultrasound which indicates 2 cyst in the same area.  The cysts are not perfectly round.   Should I have a biopsy?

Dear kathy0017:  A cyst is by definition benign.  They are not harmful and the only reason to aspirate them is if they are causing discomfort.  It is impossible to speculate on whether the cysts are the source of your discomfort.  You should have a discussion with your doctor who may be able to shed more light on the situation.

What did the radiologist recommend?  I think if it was an area of concern he would have recommended a biopsy.  I had an ultrasound and it showed a lump with indistinct margins and had to have a biopsy.
