Breast calcium and lymph nodes

Breast calcium and lymph nodes

I am a 30 year old woman living in the UK and have a 3 year old son (breast fed for 5 months).
I have had a mamogram (mammogram) and a ultasound biopsy of my left breast last week.
They have said that they found some culcium deposits in my left breast and an enlarged lymph node in my left arm pit.
I have not been told anything more and they said I will be told next Wednesday my results.
I have tried looking up what this means but I am coming accross so much information for so many different types of breast lumps.
Please could you explain clearly and honestly what I need to prepare myself mentaly for?
What are the possible options?

Hi,

Please post us the mammogram and USG reports. That would help us to answer your questions.

Well from the information that you have given, it cannot be said what your doctor or radiologist is suspecting.

But in most such cases, a biopsy is done for a confirmed diagnosis and to rule out a cancerous or malignant lesion as the cause of the calcifications.

Do let us know what your reports say.

Good luck.

I got my results yesterday but I couldn't get the mammogram or the USG report as I forgot to ask (or more like I was so shocked by the news that I didn't remember to ask).

Mr Stacey-Clear (the consultant) told me that I have a grade 2 cancerous growth. Ductal Carcinoma.

It also showed a cancerious lump sitting ontop of a 9cm diameter growth below the cancer which was unstable tissue.

On top of that I have an enlarged lymph gland under my arm which they not sure about as the results came back inconclusive.

Mr Stacey-Clear said that he would have to do a complete mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction using the Latissimus Doris Flap.

He said I would more likely due to my age have to have chemotherapy.

The worst news for me though, was that there is a possibility I may not be able to have children after all the chemotherapy. They talked about maybe freezing some of my eggs for later but the consequences of doing that may increase the size of the cancer.

My operation date is the 19th February as that’s he earliest he’s got available. He said it would be a 3 hours operation long with a minimum of 5 days in hospital. They will then analyse the removed tissues and determine what treatment to do next.

Don't give up hope on the baby thing yet.  My chemo (unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the day) did not throw me into menopause, and neither has the Tamoxifen.  There is *some* possibility that you could be put into menopause, but that's not a gemme.

I wouldn't try the egg thing mostly because you could aggravate the cancer (depending on your markers, if ER+....yes it would aggravate the cancer).

When all is said and done and you are out of treatment, if your cancer was not ER/PR+ and you are off your cancer medication safely.... then you will know whether or not conceiving is a possibility.  Even if your eggs don't survive, there are other possibilities such as egg donors, surrogates and adoption.

When you get past your treatments, find you an OB and an RE who have treated women with cancer or are willing to find out what they need to do for you.  There are many people out there who have had cancer and then gone on to have babies successfully.

Best of luck on the surgery and hopefully all will be well with you.
