I am 51 and was just diagnosed with breast cancer. The concern is not for myself, but my 18 year old daughter. She is taking birth controlControl Control rx pills and only has a period once every 3 months although the doctor told her she could take them straight through and not have a period at all. Now that her mother has breast cancer (me!) does taking birth controlControl Control rx pills for (potentially) many years affect her risk for breast cancer? I have not been tested for BRCA1 or 2. Thanks.
I think this is really a question for the doctor. However I was told that up to 8 years on the pill has the effect of reducing the risk of BC. But if you are on birth controlControl Control rx pills for longer than 8 years the effect swings the opposite way and increases your risk. Needless to say, I only found out about this AFTER I was diagnoised with BC last year. I had been on the pill on and off for approx 20 years.
