Breast cancer in young women

Breast cancer in young women

I am 28 with stage 1 breast cancer.  1.4cm, er/pr+, her2/neu - , nuclear grade - low, grade III.   Generally, from what I have read this should be a good prognosis because I am also getting 4 rounds of A/C, radiation, with tamoxifin (tamoxifen).

My doctor wrote in a report about me that breast cancer in women under 30 generally has a poor prognosis.

Why is breast cancer in women under 30 a poor prognosis, even though I found it early, I had good markers except for the grade, and I am treating it aggressively?

thank you,

becky

Dear Camsomme:  Age has been reported as a poor prognostic indicator by at least 2 large studies.  The theory is that younger women appear to have more poor prognostic features to their cancer.  In other words, the cancers in young women appear to be more aggressive.  This is not to say that you will have a poor prognosis.  Please realize that statistics are essentially averages and there are people at both ends of the equation.  Hopefully, your having discovered your cancer early will mean good results.
