I'm really sorry to hear about your friendd being diagnosed with cancer.
Hopefully, it was found very early and will be highly treatable. I had always understood that masses with smooth edges and regular shapes were less likely to be cancerous, but as you see, there are not absolutes with breast cancer. As japdip said, only a biopsy can confirm whether a lump is benign or cancerous regardless of how it looks on mammo, ultasound or MRI. Your support and sense of humor should really be helpful to her during treatment. Your don't say what type of cancer was found or what treatment recommendations she's been given, but I do wish her all the best. It's ironic that you both ended up having biopsies recommended at the same time, but I'm also hoping your biopsy ends up being benign.
Please come back and let us know your results and how your friend's doing, if you wish. I'll be thinking of you both and hoping for the best.
Hugs,
nc
We were not actually laughing at the possibility of having cancer, just how bizarre it was that we were both having to go get a biopsy at all. As everyone always says, you never think it could happen to you. I always thought the masses with smoother edges were more less to have cancer. Goes to show, anything is possible. Thanks for your response japdip.
Well, first of all it's no joking matter but taking a light hearted approach never hurts. A cancerous finding can take any shape or form .... no two cases are exactly alike. I would say that more malignant lumps are the type you mention than other forms. How soon you are notified depends on several factors ... the particular day of the week, the institution where the biopsy was done, the Dr. involved, etc. This should make you aware that only a biopsy can tell for certain if a questionable finding is benign or malignant. Our best wishes for both you and your friend for positive outcomes in your particular situations. Regards ....
