Breast indent

Hello. I am 20 years old and never have had any issues with my health and I do not have any breast cancer on either sides of my family. I went to the gynecologist about a month ago and she pointed out an slight indent on my left breast on my areola right underneath my nipple, there is no lump at all and no other abnormalities. I do naturally have lumpy breast. She examined it some more in different positions (laying down, sitting up, etc) and she said "it looks perfectly fine" but for some reason I am letting myself freak out and read many things on the internet. I've had my mom whom is a RN take a look and she thinks it's just how my areola is naturally. So I guess my question is if the gynecologist was concerned at all would she of had me go for a mammogram or other testing? I make myself sick worrying.

As your Mother can tell you a Mammogram at your age would be almost useless due to dense breast tissue. I personally would take the opinion and also your Mom to be fact and stop worrying so much about this. It is highly possible that the issue is something that has always been present. I do applaud your GYN though for noticing it. I'm quite sure if your Dr. were terribly concerned she would have perhaps ordered an Ultrasound. If you're going to continue to freak out about it you might ask her about this as US is perfectly harmless and it might put your mind at ease. Discuss it with your Mom and decide what's best for you.  Regards..

If you continue to worry about this later down the road then -  An ultrasound of that area would be a suggestion to put your mind at ease. Totally painless procedure and would not even take that long to do :)

Okay thank you. My mother said she would come with me and talk to the doctor, she said he is very good and will reassure me. Thanks again. (:

Yes it is and I usually advise women to do as little research as possible. It's OK if you want a definition of some medical terminology but most of the other information is so general that it would scare anyone, let alone someone who is already in panic mode. Talk to your Doc about an Ultrasound .... worrying is NOT a good thing.  Take care now ....

Thanks for your reply. I talked more about it to my mom today and she's basically so fed up with my constant worrying that she told me to make another appt, so that's what I did and I'm sure after a second look from the doctor i'll feel better. The internet is a scary place to read up on these things.
