Breast leakage and a lump

Breast leakage and a lump

I went to the Dr last week for a problem with spontanious lactation from both breasts. The liquid that is discharged is a clear to milky white. I cannot get the discharge to come out by expressing at all. The Dr ordered a prolactin and Thyroid, both came back ok. Ordered a mamogram (mammogram) and found a lump against the chest wall of my left breast. Ultrasound did not give any more info on the lump. Dr ordered a repeat mamogram (mammogram) in 6 months and refered me to the breast clinic at the local hospital, there is a 2 month wait for an appointment. I am SOOOO Scared.

I am a 38 year old mom of 3 young boys, non smoker and non drinker, am overweight but do martial arts for exercise several times per week.

Any ideas as to other sources of information or possible causes...if it is possibly breast cancer I really do not want to wait 2 months for my next appointment!! Dr is a young, male foriegn graduate who does not do well answering questions.....

Dear Kim:  Without reviewing the mammogram and ultrasound and doing a physical examination, we cannot speculate about what this lump and discharge may be.  You might try calling the breast clinic and explain the situation to them to see if they may be able to put you on a cancellation list or fit you in sooner.  You may also ask your doctor to give you a copy of the reports from the mammogram and ultrasound and ask him to explain the results to you.

Dear Kim:

I think you should change doctors.  You should have a doctor you can understand, and get answers to your questions. This could be something or nothing.  You have to find out, so you don't make yourself upset with worry. I hope it is nothing.

Good luck,
Annie

Hi Kim ..... What BIRAD score was assigned to your mammogram ?? If it were 4 or above I would rather see a Surgeon and consider a biopsy of some sort. Actually a 2 month wait won't really make a difference in the long run BUT I know it's a LONG time to you. Unless you need a referral due to Ins. requirements I would get out the yellow pages and start looking. Get your films and reports to take with you. You ARE in charge so don't just accept what you are told if it makes you uncomfortable. We used to be able to just sit back and rely on our Physicians but these days we need to be a lot more responsible and be aggressive if necessary.

Erin123 - There is another post from today similar to yours. The nurse responded that discharge when squeezing the nipple is normal. Take a look at that post, I think it will ease your mind.
