Breast lump is leaking fluid

Breast lump is leaking fluid

PLease help.My grandmother was diagnosed with Breast cancer a year ago.It has spread to arm pit and her arm is very swollen. She was on Tamoxifen and is now on Femara.Neither worked. There was a clear thick liquid with blood coming out of her tumour her docotr gave her antibiotics and now it is a clear thinner liquid. She says her tumour has a 'hole' in it. She is very scared and her docotor isn't giving her more information. He wants her to go for Radiation, but she is in her mid-80's and will it be too severe? Please tell me what the liquid is,and how long she has to live and what treatment she should go for now.Do you think its better not to go for any because of her age? Is surgery not an option at all also because of her age? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm very worried about her and really want to help.I'm a PhD student in cancer research and understand the medical terms, but don't know much about pathology. Thank you very much and please write back asap.

Dear marwa:  If I am reading this correctly, it sounds as though your grandmother's tumor is open and draining what sounds like serous fluid.  I would ask about surgery but it may be that it cannot be done effectively given the location of the tumor.  Radiation may, in fact, be a good option to shrink and maybe even close the wound.  She may be a little fatigued and the back and forth every day may be an effort but it might improve her quality.  It is impossible to comment on how long she might live.  People can live a long time with breast cancer.
