Breast pain, 7 yrs old girl

Hi, my daughter is 7 years old and she has her right breast swollen. I took her to the dr. and he gave antibiotics for a week. It's been 2 weeks now but the pain remains same and it still is swollen as before. The dr. says that may be she needs blood test if the antibiotic does not work. I am really worried and would like to know the possible causes.

This discussion is related to 8 yr daughter with right breast lump.

Zouzi's right. My daughter went through the same thing off and on until she started having periods at 9. Been there, done that (unfortunately!) Take care, Anne

Thank u Zouzi for your reply. I am going to the Dr. tomorrow for a check again. Hope, things will sort out and as you said there should be nothing serious to worry about. Thanks once again !

Hi,
When girls enter puberty, tissue forms behind their breasts, causing the flat area around the nipples to enlarge and giving the appearance of swollen or enlarged breasts.
You might think it's too early for that to happen, but rest assured that it does happen to young girls your daughter's age.So I don't think that something other than hormonal changes (except if she has an infection) has caused a swollen and painful breast.
By the way,the pain and swelling often start to develop on one side, rather than both sides at the same time.
If you notice that her areola is becoming larger then this could be one more puberty sign and all of these changes, like swollen breasts ,pain etc..disappear  when her breasts will completely develop in a few years.
Nowadays a lot of girls are developing very young indeed, but it's a good thing that her doctor wants her to have a blood test done to make sure that there isn't an underlying problem.
Wishing you all the best to both of you.
