Breast surgery rather than biopsy

Breast surgery rather than biopsy

I have had lumps on my breast for atleast 2 years. I just got health insurance, and during my OBGYN visit the doctor found what she said were probably 4 cysts and sent me for an ultrasound. The doctor that did the ultrasound said that there were 3 solid masses, and scheduled a biopsy (which would be 5+ weeks because she said they are very backed up). Last night my OBGYN called me and said that she received and went over the report and wants me to get surgery to remove me masses which are probably fibroadenoma, and do the biopsy when they remove them. She is recommending them based on the size, length of time I have had them, and because there are multiple masses. She is seeing me next Tues to see how mobile they are and how close together they are before she schedules surgery. I told her that I had already called a breast specialist because I did not want to wait 5+ weeks for a biopsy, but she told me she would take care of me from here. I have decided that I will keep the appointment with the specialist (its in 2 weeks) in case I do not feel comfortable after my appointment with OBGYN.
Sorry for so much info. My questions are: How common is it for a doctor to do surgery instead of a only biopsy in this kind of situation? How painful will the surgery be, and will I be put to sleep for it? What is the recovery period and any possible complications? I am assuming my OBGYN will be doing this surgery and this is the reason she wants me to come see her, is this common practice for an OBGYN? How long can I expect to wait before surgery? And should I just wait and see a specialist?
Sorry, I am just so nervous right now that it is making me physically ill. I just hate all the waiting that goes along with this. Part of me just wants to hurry up and get the surgery to get it over with, and atleast I won't have to worry about this for years. I am 26, and do not know my family history.

I'd get a biopsy from a radiologist, preferrably the head of radiology. If she cuts them out that's considered a lumpectomy and it's a totally different procedure. And, FYI, I would never let an OBGYN do a lumpectomy. I'd have either a breast surgeon or an oncologic breast surgeon do it.

Best wishes.
