Breast tumor

by JBlevins, Jul 05, 2009 01:29AM
I had a core needle biopsy yesterday on a breast lump that has grown rapidly in the last six months. The doctor and the radiologist said it is probably benign but they want to remove it regardless of the results. Why would a benign tumor need to be removed?

The rate of growth would certainly be one reason as it may continue to grow and become quite uncomfortable.  Your age may also be a factor; fibroadenomas are routinely removed in women aged 40 or over. I realize that this may not apply to you as you didn't state your age.  Regards ....

Thanks for your response. I am 42 and according to the radiologist the lump is not a fibroadenoma.
