Brown spots, sensitivity, and skin wrinkling

by kati_r, Aug 04, 2004 12:00AM
I have put this off for far too long, but worsening of the symptoms has lead me to his site via a google search.  I am 25 years old and I have a crop of brown spots that started to appear on one breast maybe about 6 months ago (give or take, I can't remember exactly when they appeared). The spots began just as a reddening and then became a discoloration. I would liken the color to that of a mole with some tiny spots darker than others. None of it is raised like a mole, but the texture of my skin is rougher there. The diameter of the brown area is approx. 1"x1" and it is located directly below my right nipple within the areola and is bordered by redness.  There is no pain associated with it, however there is an annoying high sensitivity in my right nipple. Almost directly on the darkening and extended to the side and above my nipple is a strange wrinkling in my skin that forms a very noticeable ridge.  Strangely, the wrinkling is not always present, but seems to run along a visible blue vein when it is there.

I know this all sounds so strange and that is why I can't ignore it anymore, but I have an intense fear of doctors and keeps me from going when I should.  Cancer does not run in my family and to date the only person in my entire family that has had it is my father who died last year after a very short battle with lung cancer from smoking.

Any information besides the "visit a doctor" immediately part that I'm sure I will get would be much appreciated.  Thank you very much.

Dear Kati_r, Well having it looked at by a health care professional is the best thing to do, as it is difficult to evaluate something without seeing it.  Although it sounds more like a skin problem, but having it checked out is a good idea.

Dear Kati,

I have the same problem.  Except mine is located between my breasts, and slightly on the sides.  It started a while ago, probably almost a year now.  I havent gone to the doctor yet.

Let me know if you go to the doctor.  Email me, ***@****
