Calcification of breast

by TORYEL, Nov 14, 2002 12:00AM
I am 23 years old and a year and a half ago I had a lump removed from my right breast. My surgeon said that the removed the lump for biopsy (it was benign) and the surrounding tissue because there was calcification present. I had a follow up Mammogram and was informed that the calcification was back and must go see the surgeon again. I just want to know is it normal for calcification to come back? This has both myself and my family worried.

Dear toryel, The new calcification may be as simple as related to scarring from the lump removal.  It's difficult to say without seeing the mammogram and having the benefit of comparison and further details about you.  Seeing the surgeon who will have access to all information will help to clarify this for you and determine whether further evaluation is necessary.
