Calcifications with LCIS

Calcifications with LCIS

A year and a half ago I had calcifications in the right breast. The needle biopsy, then a surgical biopsy found no cancer but did find LCIS. When I went back for a 6 month mammo last March, all was clear.  I just returned for an annual mammo and they found 2 more calcifications on the same breast. I am opting for a surgical biopsy (as a needle can't reach one of them) but I am wondering if these calcifications are related to  the LCIS or perhaps I just have a propensity for them now. I am 50, have not gone through menopause, do not smoke, am thin, no major family history, and tested negative for genetic mutation.

I don't believe you can have a propensity for developing calcifications. They are a normal occurance in breast tissue when scattered about but are cause for concern when clustered or grouped in certain patterns. They are merely an indiciation that the breast tissue is reacting to some abnormality within the breast. These may be related to the LCIS .... but they could be unrelated also. Was any mention made as to whether they were in the same area as on previous mammogram ? As you know the biopsy will be the final answer.  Regards .....

Before my first mammogram, I had been taking HRT,. I have been trying to come of HRT, so 2 weeks prior to my mammogram, I stopped taking HRT. I was recalled as I had some calcification in my right breast. I NEEDED a Biopsy and was told it was Benign, but to still continue on the 3 yearly screening programme. I have NOT taken HRT, for over a year now, my next mammogram is due next month, I am really worried cannot wait for it too be over with. I know hormones can be a part of the cause of CALCIUM DEPOSITS. They were so small even when Magnified. Just like 3 grains of salt.

I wish you all the best for the future.email address ***@****
