Welcome to Medhelp and the BC Community.

I'm sorry to hear you are facing surgery for DCIS and  many calcifictions.( Did I understand correctly that you have not yet had your mastectomy?) It is entirely natural to be preoccupied with such a major development.

The other members of this community are ready and willing to offer information and emotional support. If there is anything you would like help with, please start a new post of your own, so that it will get proper attention. (Add-ons to old post can be easily overlooked.)

I'm 43 and have been diagnosed with DCIS with Pleomorphic Calcifications. Unfortunately since my breast are so large and have so many calification we chose a simple mastectomy with reconstruction. I wish it was just a lumpectomy.

But my mind is crowded with thoughts in the morning.  I wish I could stop this procedure from renting space in my head!!

Neoplasms can be primary or secondary.  Primary neoplasms are those that originate from the organ itself (like breast cancer originating from the breast tissues themselves).  Secodary neoplasms are those that come from other organs (like liver neoplasms which are metastases from a colon cancer).  Calcifications of the breast are a sign of neoplastic growth, most commonly due to DCIS, which is a pre-malignant lesion (or a pre-breast cancer).   Regards.
