Calcim Clusters

Hi,

I prevously had a mammaogram taken and my results came back stating "calcium clusters".  They now want to do further test.  Exactly what is calcium clusters, and what causes them?  Is it anything that I should be alarmed about?

I'm not sure exactly what they are but I believe that they are built up calcium deposits that some how end up in your breast tissue, I would say if you google it you could probably definitely find a whole lot on them and what they are.  Good Luck!

Microcalcifications are in and of themselves not a cause for concern as they are found scattered about within the breast tissue normally. When they are seen to be in clusters or groups they do require further investigation. when they are grouped in certain patterns they are an indication that the breast tissue is reacting to some abnormal condition within the breast. If this is discovered on mammogram a biopsy of some sort is usually recommended to determine the cause. They are often caused by some benign condition but they can also indicate an early cancerous condition. Don't get all stressed out about it but you should definitely follow whatever recommendation was made.  Keep us posted and please come back with any further questions or concerns.  Kindest regards ....
