Call Back Mammogram

I just had a mammogram after going 10 years without one. I received a call back to have more pictures on my right breast...the tech told me the radiologist wants me to wait after the test...does anyone know if this is common?

Congratulations!!! We are always very happy to hear these wonderful news!!
Enjoy life and be free of worries!
Thanks for updating us...

P.S Breast Tomosynthesis (3D Mammography) has a higher degree of accuracy. The  procedure enables the radiologist to view inside the breast layer by layer and virtually eliminates the challenges associated with overlapping tissue in the breast.

No!!! It was GREAT that I speculated that they thought it was nothing!! As it made me super relaxed and chill about the whole thing (NOT anxious at all. :))...They were laughing and casual on the phone with the call back, and they acted like it likely wasn't cancerous....So, to me, it seemed like they didn't think it was and this helped me relax. ;)
Turns out it wasn't, anyway. :) With this call back, they had me do 3D mammography...They saw nothing at all...The shadow went away. :) The doctor showed me why I was called in (the white part on the initial x-ray). Then, she showed me this new x-ray on the right of it, with it being completely clear and gone...:)) She said that I don't have to come in for another year, and that for next time I should do 3D mammography RIGHT AWAY, to prevent another call back. :) My breasts are pretty big, so that's probably what caused the skin to fold over in the first place, to create this shadow (unless I'm wrong. :))...I asked her if they are dense, and she said that they aren't so dense, and only in some areas (probably yet another reason why I can wait a year to come in). I was SO, SO GLAD ABOUT THE RESULTS!!! My mom passed away (from a different cancer) at the end of Feb. of this year, so even though it wasn't breast cancer, it still made me a little scared. :)) Walking into to the doctor's office at the radiology place, to get my results was not fun, but once she said I am all clear and that my breasts are totally healthy, I was like "I love you!" :)
Is it common to get 3D mammography when you go into the call back (like if you didn't get it the 1st time)? Is this "compression" mammography? I don't know anything. :) I don't even know if the plates were smaller. :) Didn't pay attention...
Have a great day! Thanks for caring!!!
I hope we ALL get clear results!!!

I don't think it is of any use to speculate on what Technicians or Radiologist may think or how they may act.Usually they never tell a patient anything, until more investigation is done.
Being called back makes us all anxious, but just go ahead with your upcoming test and lets hope for the best okay?.
Take care...

Typo! I meant if the test were known to be super painful, I would be scared of that as well...That part wasn't supposed to be a question. :) Knowing that it'll just feel like a regular mammo doesn't make me scared that it'll hurt. I know it won't. I'm more scared of the results. :) And I was saying that they are being so nonchalant and chill about the call back, it's almost like they're acting like they know I don't have cancer...

Thanks! Sounds like it won't be painful for me. :)
I've been through far worse tests...Thanks for clearing that up...
I think I'm much more scared of the results, than I am of the actual test...Only if the test were known to be super painful, would I be scared of that as well...I'm a bit concerned of the results, because I'm not in pain and I heard that breast cancer lumps aren't painful, but that the benign lumps are...BUT, when they told me to come back in, they sounded so relaxed, like I might have nothing to worry about at all, that call backs are so common...I kinda feel like they wouldn't be this relaxed if they thought it was cancer...And they practically are telling me it isn't...

Well,if your breast is already tender and sore, it can be more painful, but the discomfort lasts for about 10 seconds. A Diagnostic mammogram is the same as a screening Mammogram, but the paddle that applies the compression is smaller.
I hope you get good results!

Hopefully I won't have any results that are bad, so that I wouldn't need to have a new thread discussion, but that I'll just say here that my results were negative! ;) As it sounds like call backs are often without any cancer results, right? So I want to think I'll be just fine! I have a question though: Does this call back mammogram hurt more than usual? Since they are pinpointing something? I might start a new thread, just to say that my results were negative!

Just a little suggestion that I forgot to mention before.
When you add your posts on a previous thread, members will most likely overlook it,assuming you are just adding another comment to the original poster.
When you get your Diagnostic mammogram results, please start your own thread by clicking on “Post a Question” at the top of the page, under Breast Cancer Community.
Thank you. :)

Thanks, Zouzi!
I'm going in on Monday to get the next mammogram..Yeah, could be that it's nothing. So I'm not worried as I'm learning that call backs can be nothing...
I'll let you know how it goes. :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!
It's encouraging that your Surgeon thinks that most probably it's nothing to worry about and I am hopeful that it will be exactly as he/she said.
Wishing you all the best! :)

I can surely understand your anxiety, but please try to stay calm. Obviously the "shadow" did not disappear on your Diagnostic Mammogran, including the 3D Mammogram which provides a clearer, more accurate view.
When this happens a biopsy is the ONLY sure way to find out what the abnormality represents.
We all go through this difficult time when we don't know what's going on and have to wait until the biopsy results are in.The waiting is indeed nerve wrecking, but hang in there, have your biopsy and lets hope that you'll receive benign results!
Good luck !!

I am glad you feel better. As I mentioned on my previous comment, being called back happens quite often and most of the time it’s nothing to worry about.A spot compression Mammogram is really needed to focus on the area of concern and until this is done I think we all feel a little worried.
It is not too soon to have the diagnostic Mammogram a week later.Don’t worry about radiation.Mammography
is safe and uses the lowest dose of radiation possible. The truth is that we are exposed to more "background" radiation in our daily life than when we receive mammograms.
Modern-day mammography only involves a tiny amount of radiation — even less than that used in a standard chest X-ray. So don’t stress about that okay?
I wish you well and I hope that everything will be just fine with your second mammogram.
Best wishes and good luck! ...

Great Zouzi!
As you made me feel all better! I had a mammogram last week and today I was called by both my doctor's office and by the radiology place. I was told that the doctor at the radiology department found a shadow, and asymmetry. So I was a bit scared why I have to come in again. They also said that it doesn't necessarily mean anything at all. They said it could be that my breast is just dense. HOWEVER, this has NEVER happened to me in the past before with mammograms...Does this mean I should be concerned? The fact that it's the first time? Can breasts become more dense out of no where and it can still be fine? I have no history of breast cancer...My mom passed from an entirely different one...ALSO, I was told to come in ALREADY, NEXT WEEK! Is this too soon to have radiation twice in one month? As others say they waited 3 months...Thanks in advance!

Hi,
When a screening mammogram shows something that is not clearly identified on films, the next step is to do a spot compression mammogram which will focus  on the area of concern and help clarify things.
The fact that they called you back, is very common. Sometime,it’s just the skin that has folded over on itself and looks like a shadow.A spot compression will often smooth out the tissue and the shadow or density will disappear confirming that all is okay. Usually the Doctor will let you know about the results before you leave the Institution. However if the abnormality does not disappear, then further investigation will be needed, such as an Ultrasound or other types of testing that the Radiologist may recommend.
Good luck and I hope that all goes well for you.

P.S. Please take my advice and have regular mammograms in the future.Early detection, is the key to prevent unwanted consequences.
