Can Fosamaz cause/look like 'uptake' on a bone scan?

've been taking Fosamax prophylatically for about 3 months and recently had a bone scan (I'm a stage I breast cancer patient) - it seems there is some uptake in my spine (I'm waiting for the full results) and I'm wondering if the Fosamax could cause that? I'm 48 so doubt it's arthritis.....thanks.

Dear Liz S:  According to the package insert for fosamax, there is no evidence that it causes increased uptake on bone scan.  However, it is not uncommon for degenerative changes (arthritis) to show up on bone scan, even in people in their 40's.  The nuclear medicine physician will be able to make an assessment about how suspicious to be - or not.
